Case study Observations in a Reception Class

When children first start in Reception a baseline assessment is carried out based on the Early Years Outcomes (EYO): column 1 of Development Matters. The staff spend the first half term collecting and collating observations and assessments for each child up until the October break. The baseline is carried out over this extended period to ensure an accurate picture of where each child is with their learning and development at the beginning of the Reception Year.
