On 23 September, the Department for Education (DfE) published ‘What to expect in the Early Years Foundation Stage: a guide for parents’ to reflect the EYFS reforms becoming statutory on 1 September.
There was an error on page three of the document, as a number of readers pointed out, where it stated that the EYFS was split into three age bands. This error has now been corrected and you can view the updated document here. Please note that, if you have already printed the document for use, you do not need to re-print the whole document!
A number of readers also expressed concern on the length of the document, compared to the previous version ‘What to expect, when?’. While this new version is longer in terms of pages, it actually has less words and is a quicker read. It has also been designed to work well on mobiles and tablets, which parents wanted, so you can use the contents page to navigate quickly to the section you need.
As a reminder, DfE also published a new guide, produced by Pen Green Children’s Centre, designed to help practitioners who may be supporting children that require additional help or children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
More support and advice is freely available via the DfE’s online service, ‘help for early years providers’, where you will find updated content on a range of topics relating to early years practice.
As always, if you have any thoughts or feedback on these updates, please continue to get in touch with the Foundation Years team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
