What next for Children and Family Services?
A new era, a new challenge for local authorities!

Wednesday 9th November, London

Children and family services are at a crucial juncture. With Local Authority budgets under unprecedented strain and profound demographic change, councils have to find new ways to meet both familiar and new challenges. At a time when more Council’s are sharing key services, restructuring, re-commissioning and revising service offers, this conference will debate the key issues and offer innovative but achievable solutions, which ensure that outcomes for children and families remain at the heart of service delivery.

With one third of Councils merging or planning to merge their Children’s Services department with other key departments such as adult services, it is imperative that councils ensure that their services continue to meet the needs of children and families. Councils need to ensure that there is clear accountability on outcomes for children and families.

What next for Children and Family Services? will focus on the big questions about how local authorities can best support and deliver services to children and families within the present economic environment. It will also provide a valuable opportunity for delegates to inform and shape thinking about next stage priorities.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Nick Whitfield, Director of Education, Children’s and Cultural Services, London Borough of Richmond
  • Yvette Stanley, Director of Children’s Services, Merton Council
  • Thanos Morphitis, Director of Strategy and Commissioning, Islington Children’s Services, London Borough of Islington
  • Professor Corinne May-Chahal, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Lancaster University
